The project was implemented in the provinces of Kwanza-Sul (Amboim, Cassongue, Cela, Conda and Quibala) and Huíla (Cacula, Caconda, Chicomba, Chipindo and Caluquembe) and covered ten municipalities (Amboim, Cassongue, Cela, Conda and Quibala – Kwanza-South and Cacula, Caconda, Chicomba, Chipindo and Caluquembe – Huila), five in each, and planned to strengthen the institutional capacity of the parties involved, strengthen the production capacity of small farmers and improve their link with markets.
The project covered, as main crops, maize, beans, potatoes and various vegetables, which will benefit 60,000 families, 300,000 people and trained 10,000 families in field schools.
Main activities of the project:
- Improve the sampling methodology including the distribution of the sample to select small farmers, including women and young people;
- Development of data collection tools, which included such questionnaires and interview guides for collecting qualitative data, both at the agricultural market level and at the agricultural and youth level;
- Development of a strategy to ensure data quality;
- Engagemnt with project management and control unit ensuring that the data collection tool met the project’s key indicator measurement objectives;
- Conducting the appropriate statistical analysis more on the data and preparation a two-stage research report;
The project team worked closely with the project monitoring unit to ensure that the M&E framework and implementation strategy area in the project field was aligned with the research findings. For the KAP (knowledge, attitudes and practices) research on nutritional assessment, consultations were made with secondary sources related to underage children with nutritional status, and women on food availability and feeding practices in the project areas.
